Keke Rosberg’s maiden F1 race winning trophy : Swiss GP, Dijon 1982
The 1982 Swiss GP was held as a one off event at Dijon in France and to date is the only Formula 1 World Championship Swiss GP held since 1954. The race was won by Keke Rosberg in the Williams FW08, his first of his five F1 victories and the only win of his world championship winning season.
The top three finishers were presented with rather unusual trophies on the podium : traditional Swiss cowbells with commemorative plaques applied to the leather, in three sizes. Rosberg’s winners trophy was the largest of the three and is quite loud! It carries a makers mark of H Friedli / Wynigen and the bell has a ’49’ marking as depicted.
The trophy returned to Williams’ Didcot factory after the race and suffice to say it wasn’t much liked by Frank Williams, who wanted it placed in storage out of sight! It allegedly reappeared, suspended above the staff canteen some time later, much to Frank’s annoyance. It was in response to this prank that he suggested the perpetrator take it home for good!
Now, 43 years later we are delighted to offer this wonderful piece for sale direct from the archive of that retired member of the Williams team. It has been cleaned and lightly restored, but retains some essential patina as imaged.
A genuine piece of Williams GP, Keke Rosberg and Formula 1 World Championship history from the only race victory of Rosberg’s 1982 World Championship winning season and his maiden win.
