Description

Phil Hill, a silver Ferrari award, Aintree British Grand Prix 1961

We are privileged to offer this fine silver plated cigarette box that was presented as a personal gift to Ferrari driver, Phil Hill at the 1961 British Grand Prix held on July 15th 1961 at Aintree,

This piece bears an enamelled Scuderia Ferrari team badge and engraved inscription  “Phil Hill, Ferrari 15.7.61, British Grand Prix”.

Whilst Phil Hill qualified in pole position in wet conditions driving the ‘sharknose’ Ferrari, he finished the race in second place behind team mate, Wolfgang von Trips. It would be Von Trips’ last career win before he perished in an accident at Monza two races later.

Phil Hill went on to win the 1961 Formula One World Drivers Championship and became the first American World Champion.

This unique and personal piece represents an incredibly rare opportunity to a personal driver’s item from a World Championship year. Supplied with detailed MM COA.
