McLaren Parts From The Rowan Atkinson Chassis 061 Accident

Whilst all of the McLaren F1 road cars are special, chassis 61 is possibly the most well-known. It was ordered new by Rowan Atkinson after the launch of the Mr. Bean film and covered over 40,000 miles during his 20-year ownership.

However, it was not without incident. In 2011, Rowan crashed the car heavily in Cambridgeshire that resulted in the U.K.’s largest-ever car insurance settlement. Repairs at the McLaren HQ were overseen by one of the original project members and took over 12 months.

This unique presentation piece consists of an item of carbon fibre bodywork from 061 with the unique deep maroon paintwork as well as a carbon piece from the engine bay that has 24-carat gold plating as part of the heat reflection specified by Gordon Murray.

These are believed to be the only two parts salvaged from the complete restoration, and all mounted and framed on a carbon backing with an original F1 nose badge. The presentation is accompanied by a three-page letter of authentication with photographs of the restoration as well as a photograph of Rowan Atkinson driving the car which was signed at Goodwood.
