Mat Oxley 1990 Arai Race Helmet With Personal Letter And Design Mark Up Sent To Mike Fairholme
This genuine race used Arai Giga helmet dates to 1990 when the 1986 250cc Isle of Man TT winner had become editor of Performance Bikes magazine.
Mat’s race helmets were painted by the legendary Mike Fairholme (who painted most Arai F1 helmets in this period). The pearlescent white and fluo pink helmet helmet bears Mike’s painters Mark as well as the tribute to Mat’s late brother Julian.
He had dabbled with the idea of a pop art / Roy Lichtenstein inspired makeover for the helmet and marked up this helmet together with a letter to Mike.
Ultimately Mike refused to paint such a complex design and Mat continued with his trademark colours. To this day, Mat is one of the great motorcycle racing historians and authors and is the two wheeled writer for Motor Sport.
This is a unique Mat Oxley Arai race used helmet with undoubted provenance from the IoM TT winner, including the mark up, personal letter and a copy of a recent exchange with his friend and esteemed F1 writer, Mark Hughes.
