Description
Lewis Hamilton 2012 Mercedes AMG Petronas GP prototype Puma racesuit
We are delighted to offer this racesuit direct from the collection of a former Puma Europe executive, being one of the initial prototypes produced on a made to measure basis for Lewis Hamilton by Puma in Q4 2012. This was after Lewis signed his F1 contract with the Mercedes F1GP team in September 2012, coincidental with his new racewear supply
agreement with Puma (previously Sparco). This was used for initial fitting and test purposes.
In conjunction with Lewis, Puma developed a new range of ultra lightweight racewear with printed sponsor logos and new materials, including this early prototype racesuit in full compliance with FiA safety standard 8856-2000. This racesuit is hand marked as number ’02’ with a production date of 2012 and bears all of the prevailing 2012 sponsors of the Mercedes team. It was prepared as a pre-homologation example for approval, hence RS 000.00 coding (before the FiA issued a formal homologation code).
The racesuit not only pre-dates full homologation, but the sponsors of the Mercedes team changed before the 2013 car launch on February 4th at Jerez, when Blackberry were announced as a team partner and their logo was prominently added to the racesuits of both Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.
There is some minor discolouration from storage evident. This historic piece comes with a full Letter of Authentication from the former Puma Europe executive.
Unrepeatable.
