After the summer break, the 2021 Formula One season resumes this weekend at the awesome Spa Francorchamps circuit. Based upon the Sky F1 teasers, we are set for an amazing feature where Mick Schumacher drives the Jordan Ford 191 around Silverstone with Karun Chandhok, 30 years after his father Michaelβs F1 debut.
That 1991 Belgian race triggers significant personal memories for me as I was part of the Jordan management team that year. We ran Michael on the south circuit at Silverstone testing in the week running up to the race, after he had been drafted in via a hastily agreed contract negotiated with Willi Weber, Jochen Neerpasch and EJ. We were all amazed at the speed, consistency and feedback Michael provided and went to Spa with high hopes.
Michael qualified an incredible 7th but only lasted half a lap in the race, whilst the late Andrea de Cesaris almost won the race ahead of a wounded Senna in the McLaren before a minor failure put him out of the race.
The rest is history. Michaelβs switch to Benetton with Moreno and a first career win at the same circuit a year later (1992: the last win for a manual gearbox F1 car) underscored Michaelβs incredible talents.
At Motorsport Memorabilia we have worked closely with the model makers who developed and produced this wonderful 1:8 scale replica of Michaelβs Spa 1991 debut car, which is a beautiful and fitting tribute to the man and one of the finest looking F1 cars ever made.
With only two examples now available from the production run, we recommend securing this stunning model whilst it is available.
Thank you,
Tim
