As F1 2026 returns after the rather atypically enforced break, Miami will be centre stage to see if the regulation tweaks have actually worked.
However, May 1st will always be remembered for the tragic events at Imola in 1994, with the sad death of Roland Ratzenberger in his Simtek on Saturday 30th April and the fatal accident of Ayrton Senna on Sunday 1st May.
We have several related pieces that pay tribute to these drivers, including a very rare Simtek fabricated storage box in team colors, with a copy of the original business plan as well as a Simtek rear wing end hand signed by 19 drivers in period.
The career of Ayrton Senna is well documented We have a wonderful sculpture by Gregory Percival of Senna in the Williams at his last race, a Ben Payne original artwork (oil on board) entitled ‘Arrivederci Ayrton’ as well as his original resin sealed work ‘Brazilian eyes’ and a superb portrait ‘Rheos 91’ (also available as a print).
A hand built model by SMTS / Keith Williams of Ayrton at Monaco 1984 in his Toleman is presented in a glass display case as a diorama, whilst we have a very rare example of the TAG Heuer 6000 Senna series watch – the only Senna endorsed TAG Heuer edition launched in his lifetime – marketed in Brazil where this example was sourced.
As a recent visit to Imola proved, Senna remains ever popular with real racing enthusiasts and his memorabilia is the most highly prized on the market.
Thanks,
Tim
